Hi, dolls!
There has been a huge demand for me to review Kylie Cosmetics, so I finally gathered all my products from Kylie together and decided to review them. As for my first brand review, this one is the hardest because after owning these products so long and having many email situations with this company, I have so many mixed feelings about it. I'm going to keep it real and honest with you guys throughout this whole review, so keep reading if you're interested in finding out more.
Many of the products in the pictures I either sold or gave away because I used to buy them like crazy and never use afterwards. I will mention which ones I had and gave away at the end of this review. All products mentioned below can be found and bought only on www.kyliecosmetics.com so be careful as there are many fakes going around!
Matte Liquid Lipsticks
First product that Kylie came out with were her three matte liquid lipsticks. I got my very first Kylie Lip-kit in the shade 'Koko K' on the day of its launch in February 2016. As you can see from the swatches above, currently I own 5 of her matte liquid lipsticks in the shades Koko K, Candy K, Exposed, Dolce K and Mary Jo K. Each lip kit comes with a liquid lipstick and a lip liner and costs $29 which is around £22. Although the price doesn't seem to crazy for Kylie, if you're from UK like myself, you will be faced with paying customs for anything over £15. However, there is an option to purchase her liquid lipsticks now as singles which cost around £13 ($17) and this way you will avoid having to pay any customs.
I didn't find these liquid lipsticks to work for me and to be honest, I do regret spending this much on lipsticks that I never reach for. I hate how drying it feels on my lips and I just find myself preferring creamier formulas rather than mattes. Also, some of the shades look way darker on my skin than what I expected from the photos from Kylie's website, and it almost makes me wonder why the pictures of the shades aren't shown on different skin tones. Dolce K looked like the perfect nude on Kylie, whereas on me it looks like the darkest brown colour ever.
One thing I liked and enjoyed about these lipsticks is that they stay on for a long time and it's very hard to get them off your lips, meaning it will stay in place for longer and you won't have to worry about reapplying it every hour or so. Below, I inserted a picture of my hand after I tried to remove the lipstick swatches with a makeup remover, some of the product still stayed on my hand and its actually very hard to remove, which some might enjoy and some might not.
Glosses
After the matte lipsticks, Kylie came out with a music video campaign for her newest launch of her new formula - glosses. I find glosses a better fit for myself than mattes, so I went ahead and bought 7 of them. The one missing from the picture is LIKE gloss, because I found it to be too dark for my skin, so I sold it. Keep in mind you can't return any products bought from Kylie, so your only chance to get your money back is to sell the ones you don't like.
All glosses cost 15 dollars which is around £12, meaning if ordered on its own, you can avoid paying customs in the UK. Although all glosses are sticky and very easy to come off - I prefer this formula much more than the mattes.
Velvets
Kylie's newest formula - Velvet - is very similar to a regular satin liquid lipsticks. I decided to buy only one to try it out, as I didn't buy too many and then not reach out for it like in the case with my mattes. I bought the shade Charm, which is a very pretty pink tone. I still found this formula to feel a bit patchy on my lips, and I prefer to wear it with a gloss on top, to make my lips feel a bit more comfortable.
Velvet lip kits cost $27 which is around £21, but you could always get a single velvet which costs $16 (£12). The only problem is that the colours of velvets in the lip kits differ from the ones you can purchase as a single, which is annoying because if you want a certain shade it might only be available as a lip kit and not a single.
Kylie Cosmetics x KKW Beauty
Creme Liquid Lipsticks
After trying all of Kylie Cosmetics' formulas, and so far only finding glosses to suit me, I was so excited when I heard a new, creme formula was being made. This collab with Kim was everything and I knew I had to get it. Kim has said in multiple interviews that all these colours are nude based because that's the shades she uses everyday, so I was excited because I needed more nudes in my collection. However, when they arrived, I was not as happy as I thought I would be. The formula differs from glosses, but to get a full coverage on your lips it really takes a while and a lot of the product has to be put on, layer after layer, which isn't so fun to do. Also, although the colours are 'nudes' when the flash is on, you can see that on the non-flash pictures they look brighter than you would expect your typical nudes to be. Again, that's because my skin is pale, and Kim's/Kylie's isn't, but if this product is being advertised as 'nudes', it should be look nude for every skin tone - at least in my opinion.
This collab costs $45 which is £34. If you ask me, I would not recommend it. I don't think this is a bad product, again it just depends on your formula preferences. If you like something creamy, then this is the product for you. The thing that has put me off the most is the fact you need about 3-4 layers of this for the colour to show, and I just don't have time to do that. For this reason, I just never reach for it anymore as I want to use a product that will show its pigment with one, max two applications not 3-4. However, I have to admit that the packaging of this set is beautiful! You can now only purchase this set from KKW beauty (it is no longer on Kylie Cosmetics).
Kyliner
In my previous blog post, I mentioned how crazy I used to be eyeliners and used them on a daily basis, so naturally when I heard Kylie is realising her eyeliners, I wanted to get them and try it out. I so regret doing that. The eyeliner set comes with one pencil liner, one eyeliner brush and gel eyeliner. Firstly, it was on sale for $36 (£27), then it went down to $26 (£20) to now being completely gone from her website (for good reasons!)
I was never a fan of gel liners but this was the worst one that I have ever tried. The brush also, made it impossible to create a nice line with it, in my opinion it was way too thic and the hairs of the brush made it impossible to draw a good eye line. Due to the fact that Kylie doesn't do any refund, I simply got rid of the gel liner, I still kept the pencil liner and the brush but to be honest I never use it. The fact that it's now gone from the website after decreasing its price speaks for itself.
Kyshadows
Kylie's eyeshadow (Kyshadow) palettes are my favourite products from her. Although their high prices, as the palettes range from $42 to $52, I have been enjoying the shadows formula. One of the many first complaints was that the first Bronze and Burgundy palettes came without a mirror, and for their price you would expect at least a mirror to be included. This however, was later fixed and now all the palettes include a mirror. This only suck for the people who got the palettes earlier on and got it without the mirror, I find it a bit unfair.
The Kyshadow palettes I own are the Holiday Edition 2016 & the Smooch mini collection. To be honest, I am not a very big fan of the colours in the Holiday palette, so I do not use it as often. I only have it because I received it as a Christmas present. I purchased the Valentines 'Smooch' mini collection 2 months after receiving the Holiday palette, which included 2 eyeshadows, one mini matte and one mini gloss. Although the palette comes with only two shadows, I am obsessed with them. Their formula is even better than the shadows in the Holiday palette and I wish she came out with more as single shadows. The palette I want to try out next from Kylie is the Burgundy palette, and once I buy it I will definitely review it too.
All orders directly from KylieCosmetics.com include a little sweet 'thank you' card from Kylie herself. I really like those cards and as you can see I keep them in my collection.
Items I decided to get either sell or giveaway
As already mentioning, I had more Kylie products in my collection but either decided to sell it or give it away to friends or family. I will briefly explain why each product was given/sold.
Gloss in the shade 'Like' - I sold it after finding the shade to be too dark for me.
Holiday 2016 Creme Eyeshadows in 'Yellow Gold' & 'Golden Plum' - I sold it simply because I didn't like its formula.
Mini Matte in the shade 'Gorg' - I simply don't enjoy the matte formula from Kylie, so I gave it away to a family member who likes the formula and would use it much more often than me.
Mini Gloss 'Poppin' - Although I love Kylie's glosses, I also gifted this to a family member, so they can try out Kylie's formulas.
Kiss Me Valentines Collection - I bought it for my cousin's birthday
Matte 'Kourt K' = This shade was too dark for my pale skin. I also found it too patchy on the lips and the formula was not as consistent as in other shades. With this lipstick, I just threw it away.
Final Thoughts
I did enjoy trying out Kylie's products however I definitely think they are over priced. Also, the matte formula didn't work for me, I don't like how drying it makes my lips feel and I definitely regret spending this much money on her lip kits, simply because I never reach for them. I think out of all of Kylie's products, I loved the eyeshadows the most as well as the glosses. I can't wait to see what product Kylie launches in the future and I really hope they will be available in Europe because I am sick of paying customs after already paying so much for her products.
I hope you guys have enjoyed my first brand review! Make sure to tell me in the comments below if you have tried Kylie Cosmetics, and if so, what are your thoughts about it? Stay tuned for more coming soon! xo
Love, Olivia xo
