Setting Sprays 101 - Urban Decay All Nighter VS Bridal Skindinavia

by - Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Hi, dolls!

In today's post, I wanted to focus on setting sprays and all the information essentially needed when picking the right setting spray for your skin type. Also, in this post, I wanted to do a little comparison between the two famous setting sprays - All Nighter by Urban Decay and the Bridal setting spray by Skindinavia and share my opinions on both with you guys. I hope you enjoy this post and if you are interested in setting sprays, then keep on reading.

There are many sprays out there but only a few are good at setting make-up, so it is important to find one that will actually help to set it for a good amount of hours. The main key to this is to look at the spray's ingredients, as the best setting sprays out there will have alcohol listed as their most likely second ingredient, after aqua/water. This is something everyone should be aware of when looking for a good setting spray because it is what will keep the make-up in place. Many of these setting sprays will leave your face feeling a bit of tightening after applying it, but in my opinion, that feeling shows that the setting spray is actually working and keeping the make-up on your face in place. However,  I would not recommend getting the setting spray that contains alcohol in them close to your eyes as they can be very sensitive to it, so it is always a good idea to have your eyes closed once spraying it on.

There are some of the recommendations for picking the right setting spray based on your skin type, however, there are many more options out there if you do not particularly find any of the brands mentioned below appealing.

- All Nigher & Bridal Skindinavia for all skin types
- NYX Dewy Finish & ABH Dewy Set for dry skin
- De-Slick Oil Control & Huda Beauty Resting Boss Face for oily skin

118 ml/4oz
£24/$32

I have been using All Nighter setting spray for 3 years now and I definitely love how it sets my make-up on my face for hours. The spray has been developed in an exclusive partnership with Skindinavia and is known as one of the best setting sprays out there. It is advertised to keep your make-up set for around 16 hours and to be honest with all of you, this setting spray works magic on the face, and although the amount of hours it actually sets your make-up on depends on various things, it does definitely set it for at least a good 5/6 hours I would say.

It comes in two sizes - 118ml and travel size 30 ml. It is suitable for ALL skin types and is 100% cruelty-free.

I never really knew much about Skindinavia and their products until I realised that the All Nighter setting spray is made in collaboration with Skindinavia. After learning the fact, I read many reviews which stated that the All Nighter setting spray was only good due to the fact it was a collab with Skindinavia and that Skindinavia's sprays are the best out there. I was very curious to find out if it is true because I watched many tutorials and read reviews where people were loving the Bridal spray by Skindinavia and wanted to give it a go myself. I was surprised to find out that both setting sprays cost the same amount of money when you order from the UK like myself, but once you try to buy them in the US, the price differs by 3 dollars which to me is very odd!

The spray comes in two sizes - 118ml and 236ml and is suitable for all skin types. It is also cruelty-free and paraben-free.

I also went ahead and did a little test to see how good Skindinavia spray actually is and did two separate swatches of a random eyeshadow on my hand but only sprayed one side (side A) with the setting spray. I let it set for good 5 to 10 minutes, and later took one cotton pad to try and take off as much of the eyeshadow swatches on both sides as possible. As you can see on picture two, side B which was the side that was NOT set with the setting spray, was way easier to take off with a dry cotton pad, whereas side A still stayed on. This really shocked me because I have seen a similar test on the Urban Decay website with the All Nighter and never believed that these 'tests' are 100% authentic but it turns out that the Skindinavia setting spray definitely works!

Before I tested both setting sprays and compared them to each other, I have asked on my twitter account which setting spray you guys think is better. Most of you said that the All Nighter is a better setting spray and works better than the Skindinavia one.

However, after trying Skindinavia for a while, I am ready to leave my All Nighter setting spray on the side and carry on using the Bridal setting spray by Skindinavia full-time. For me, it keeps the make-up in place for longer than the All Nighter and I feel like it will remain my favourite for a very long time because I am so happy with the way it sets my make up. For those wondering which one to get out of the two, I will honestly say that both work in a very similar way and both will definitely set your face BUT in my opinion, Skindinavia Bridal spray does just a little bit of a better job than the All Nighter.

Let me know in the comment what are your favourite setting sprays, and which one of the two you would like to try the most!

  3. I've been using Urban Decay's All Nighter Setting Spray for several years, as well. Who knew Skindinavia was the original? I may need to check it out the next time I need to setting spray. Also it's slightly cheaper (US), so that's always a plus! Thanks for doing this comparison! I look forward to reading more like this on your blog!

  4. The end was kinda surprising!
Once i did my makeup at 5 am (using my normal bb cream and setting powder and...) and set it all with the UD spray.
We went hiking and it was hella hot, lots of sweating, i even jumped in the water and guess what? Even after jumping in water ALL of my makeup was still there! Nothing smudged or vanished! My bb cream stayed on for a good 16-17 hours!

  15. I think I'm the only one who hasn't tried the UD spray lol. I hear it's worth it but the price makes me cringe. I've been using the NYX and it does a pretty good job
