Lancome Idôle vs Idôle L'Intense - Fragrance Review and Comparison

Hi, dolls!
I am very excited today because Lancome has surprised me once again and sent out their three fragrances out to me. I've received La Vie Est Belle, Idôle and Idôle L'Intense. I thought it would be fun to keep this review about both Idôle fragrances and leave La Vie Est Belle for another comparison as I'd also love to review the newest Lancome scent Soleil Cristal. If you're interested to find out more about Idôle and Idôle L'Intense, let's get right into it!

Created by women for women, Idôle was launched in 2019 and is a Chypre Floral fragrance. It's described as a fresh fragrance with notes of rose, jasmine and chypre. It comes in a sleek, refillable bottle to support a more sustainable future. Dedicated to women who dare to dream, who defy expectations, to the leaders and innovators of tomorrow. Strong, Outspoken and Empowered - the women who look to themselves for the inspiration they need to rewrite the future.

Top Notes: Bergamot, Juicy Pear & Pink Peppercorn
Middle Notes: Rose & Jasmine
Bottom Notes: White Musk, Vanilla, Patchouli & Cedarwood

The opening of Idôle gives me a burst of a strong, juicy pear and bergamot. Soon after you start to smell the Rose and the Jasmine and as it settles throughout the day, you also get to smell its bottom notes of musk and vanilla. I find Idôle to be very light and fresh but also super powerful. It's a fragrance that definitely makes a statement - after all it was created for all women. I personally really love this scent and see myself reaching for it throughout the day as well as on a night out. It's truly beautiful and has an excellent staying power and projection. I was really surprised to see so many negative opinions about it because for me it's a great fragrance, one I would definitely repurchase myself.

I also have to talk about the bottle of this fragrance - it's the thinnest one I have ever seen. It's really simple but pretty and what I like the most about it is that it's refillable. The only issue is that it doesn't really stand on its own but I still managed to place it nicely in my fragrance stand.

Idôle L'Intense was launched in 2020 and just like Idôle, it's also dedicated to women. It's described as a burning fragrance through the glass transparency revealing the most brilliant version of the Idôle woman.

Top Notes: Intense Chypre Accord, Bitter & Mandarin Orange
Middle Notes: Intense Rose Essence & Intense Jasmine Absolute
Bottom Notes: Acacia, Cashmere Wood, Patchouli, Vanilla, Amber and Cedar

The opening of Idôle L'Intense gives me a burst of rose with sweet, orange notes. As it settles throughout the day, you start to smell the notes of vanilla and musk and its bottom woody notes become more apparent. For me, it differs from the original as it adds a heavier dose of rose and citrus. It's definitely stronger and just like it's name - more intense. Although there is a bit of similarity between the two, I definitely see Idôle L'Intense as more of a going-out scent out of the two, however you can still wear it throughout the day.

The bottle design also differs as it's no longer see-through - it has a pink and gold sheen instead. To be completely honest the difference between them colour-wise doesn't really bother me because they both look pretty and I really enjoy the thin design of the bottle instead.

Both Idôle and Idôle  L'Intense are Eau de Parfum. Eau de Parfum has the highest concentration of fragrance - generally having a fragrance concentration of between 15% and 20%. On average, Eau de Parfum should last from four to five hours, if not more. This differs from Eau de Toilette which has a fragrance concentration of between 5% and 15%. Eau de Toilette is definitely one of the most popular types of fragrances and it's cheaper than EDP but it will normally only last for two to three hours.

Final Thoughts
Besides having the same bottle shape and similar longevity, I find these two scents to be completely different. Idôle's top notes of pear and bergamot make it sweeter and as it settles throughout the day, you start to smell the florals with vanilla and musk. On the other hand, Idôle L'Intense has a stronger opening of roses and orange which adds bitterness to the smell and it's more spicy and aromatic.

In my opinion, you can't hate them both - you will either enjoy both or like one more than the other. Idôle is the one I would personally pick out of the two, however I am enjoying Idôle L'Intense more now than when I first smelled it. I definitely see myself reaching for both and even layering the two together.

Once again, thank you Lancome for gifting me your fragrances!
I hope you enjoyed this review and comparison. As previously mentioned, I was also gifted La Vie Est Belle which I will be comparing soon to the new Soleil Cristal version. Let me know down in the comments which of the two you'd prefer and what other Lancome products you'd be interested to read about xo

  5. I never understood the difference between eau de toilet and Parfum (tells you my perfume knowledge) but now I see why most good fragrances are on the expensive side. I love La Vie Est Belle by Lancome it's such a classic! Great review x

  16. A great review of the two perfumes, but they're surprisingly expensive. What's the reason for having a top note when it only last a few minutes? I've never understood that

  19. I was given Idole Intense 50ml as a gift and absolutely love it. I then bought myself the 75ml but the bottle wouldn’t stand up! I got in touch with Boots where I bought it from and was told to take it back for a refund as it was obviously a fault. I then found all the tall bottles are like this! Why didn’t Boots know this! I had got a good offer and can’t get that offer again…..😢. I must admit though I don’t like having to lay the bottle down to store it, does seem strange. I have noticed since that new styles are coming out with a lip at the bottom to allow it to stand up so there must have been an awful lot of complaints? Unfortunately Idole Intense does not have the lip!
