Reviewing Revolution x Roxxsaurus Ride or Die Shadow Palette

Hi, dolls!

In today's post, I will be reviewing the new collab between Revolution and Roxxasurus. Roxi is a Youtuber who has attracted over 3 million subscribers on her main channel and also has a second YouTube channel with her partner Matt generating around 400k fans. Her collab with Revolution consists of three palettes - Ride or Die Shadow Palette, Colour Burst Shadow Palette and Highlight & Contour Palette. I decided to only reach for the Ride or Die Shadow Palette because it attracted me the most as the palette looks very beautiful and consists of colours that can be used on a day-to-day basis but also for any night out looks.

Ride or Die Shadow Palette

The Ride or Die Palette consists of 9 mattes and 9 shimmer eyeshadow shades, ranging from everyday neutrals, soft browns to raspberry and pale pink. I think this is what appeals to me the most as this palette has so many beautiful colours that can be used for any occasion.

I was very excited for this palette because of how stunning it looks, however, after swatching it, as well as trying it on my eyes on multiple occasions, I was disappointed. I found the shimmer shadows to be not as pigmented as in other Revolution's palettes, especially the shade 'DRACO' felt very patchy and hard to use. It would take forever to build any type of pigment by using the shade and it would still look off and definitely not as good as in the pan. All shimmers except 'SHOOK' and 'CRANBERRY' felt dry to use with an eyeshadow brush, whether it was dry or wet, and it took me a long time to apply the right amount of the shimmer on my eyelid. However, once using your finger, it works fine. My disappointment comes not from the fact that the shimmers work best when applying it with a finger, but from the fact that I love Revolution and own so many of their palettes and this is the first time that I found their shimmers to be so hard to work with.

The shades 'SHOOK' and 'CRANBERRY' are definitely more of a glitter formula and perform much nicer, they kind of remind me of the melted metal shadows from Huda's Rose Gold Remastered Palette, which I really enjoy using. The mattes perform well, however some shades such as 'HONEY' need more than one layer to truly show off its pigmentation.

I have to admit that I am disappointed with the Ride or Die Shadow Palette because comparing it to Revolution's other eyeshadow collabs or even their palettes, this one in particular just does not feel like it is the same good quality that I am used to from Revolution. The eyeshadow palettes from both Sophie's and Tammi's collabs perform much better and are definitely of a better quality. I would definitely not recommend it to anyone because even though it is only £10/$15, I think it is better to spend that amount on another palette that will perform so much better.

  1. Wow, what a disappointing palette!!! I understand that not every palette can appeal to every person, but when a brand that you really like a lot doesn't come thru for a collaboration, it's really disappointing! I wonder what the other two palette's perform like? Maybe it was just the neutrals , sometimes I find super matte mattes to have more fall out and lil harder to blend then regular shades, with a lil bit of a slick finish, if that makes any sense?
